International Youth Festival Stars Aug. 10
The Philipines will hose a series of landmark events highlighting the 2006 International Youth Festival starting Aug. 10 with some 1,500 local youth leaders, 1,000 educators, and 500 international youth representatives from over 40 nations participating.The festival aims to promote better awareness of the "World Program of Action for Youth for the Year 2000 and Beyond" (WPAY), adopted by the United Nations General Assembly in 1995. It will seek to help achieve the Millenium Summit in year 2000.
Foremost among these goals is the eradication of extreme hunger and poverty, which this year's theme directly confronts. "Tackling Poverty Together" will be the theme of all presentations, discussions, and activities in the festival.
